Senators Feinstein & Schumer Cave to Bush Onslaught, Voting to Confirm AG Nominee Who Won’t Condemn Torture Tactics… | November 3, 2007

I am disgusted this AM with two democratic Senators for their willingness to believe that a Bush nominee for the all important position of Attorney General will , after confirmation, actually enforce laws that he has refused to endorse as a nominee. Senators Feinstein & Schumer will find that, in the end, their votes to confirm Judge Mukasey will come back to haunt them in the same way that those who voted for Bush’s War In Iraq are haunted.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. Anybody who watched the Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings for Mukasey cannot help but believe that this man, whose was unwilling to label “waterboarding” as torture, will continue to provide cover for tactics employed by the CIA and other agencies that are clearly in violation of bothe moral and international laws.

The crucial defense offered by Mukasey for his refusal has to do with not exposing the past actions of government agents, who, acting either on their own or under instructions from “higher authority” used various techniques that are defined as torture during interrogations. [Read NY Times article Nominee’s Stand May Avoid Tangle of Torture Cases: :http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/01/washington/01mukasey.html?th&emc=th] That, dear reader, is exactly the point of why the Judge should not be confirmed. Those who employed torture should be prosecuted, as should those in “higher authority”who authorized it’s use, to include Impeachment of Bush and Cheney for their roles as enablers. Note that this administration has consistently and, unfortunately, successfully, expanded the reach of an “imperial” presidency. It willfully ignores laws that it deems as limiting those powers, as called for by the Constitution, and has placed the check and balances of that document in grave jeopardy.

By allowing those who have broken both the law to get off scot free, Schumer and Feinstein are acting as enablers themselves…providing cover for criminals and despots who should be called to task for their actions, not given a free pass.

Shame on them. Shame on them.
